As an abstract artist, my Jewish routes have influenced my work in many ways. I am often visiting Israel and always find this incredibly inspiring. Israel is very much in my heart and I feel so connected there. From the heat, the vast array of beautiful colours, the food, the different areas, the people, the beach and sea. There is so much creativity there, this has transpired and had great influence to the colour and abstract investigations in my work.
A few years ago I visited Caesarea and was so inspired by the beautiful rock formations and history of the area. I created a piece based on Caesarea called ‘Sea Rocks’, which was then featured in a Saatchi curated collection and then sold online to a collector in the USA
Although my main focus is abstract work, I have also previously created a few pieces of Jewish Art.
I have been influenced by many artists including Giacometti, Matisse, Monet, Degas, Klee, Calder. Also Klimt and was inspired once again with the amazing film ‘The Woman in Gold’ and thereafter starting incorporating more gold in my work. The film portrays such a strong sense of how powerful Art can be and the value of Art can sometimes be even greater than its monetary worth.
Art is such a personal thing and it is the artist revealing a part of themselves and exposing these secrets / aspects onto the canvas. So my paint marks are the essence of who I am and I am Jewish.
